Statement of Faith and Practice

I.      Bibliology  (Study of the Bible)

Revelation:  The Bible, with all of its sixty-six books, was divinely revealed to man.  Therefore, it rests as the final authority for faith and practice (Rom. 10:17; 1 Thes. 4:1).  It was progressively revealed and is now complete (Heb. 1:1-2).

Inspiration:  The complete Bible is inspired of God in the sense that it was not merely an “act of man’s will” but it was God superintending these human authors using their own style and even personality.  These men composed and recorded without error God’s complete and perfect revelation to man in the words of the original autographs (II Peter 1:20-21; II Tim. 3:16).

II.    Theology  (Study of God)

The Godhead and the Trinity:  There is only one God (Deut. 6:4) who is spirit (Jn. 4;24).  He is the essence but exists eternally in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit (Matt. 28:19).

Creation:  God did create the entire universe in six literal days (Gen. 2:1-3), not out of any pre-existing materials (Gen. 1:1; Jn. 17:5).

III.   Christology  (Study of Christ)

Pre-existence of Christ:  Jesus Christ does exist eternally (Jn. 1:1).  Before the incarnation, He existed as the eternal Son of God, the second person of the Trinity and as co-equal with the Father (Heb. 1:8; Jn. 17:5).

IV.  Pneumatology   (Study of the Holy Spirit)

The deity of the Spirit:  The Holy Spirit is a person, not a mere influence of just God’s active force in the world (Matt. 28:19; Jn. 14:26).  Being the third person of the Trinity (in administration, not rank), He is fully and totally God and co-equal with the other members.  Attributes of God are described to Him (Rom. 8:2; Jn. 16:13); He does the work of God (Titus 3:5); and He receives honor due only to God.

V.   Anthropology (Study of Man)

Creation:  God created man out of the soil and in His image (not physical image, but a spiritual and rational likeness (Gen. 1;16-17; 2:7).

Fall:  Having been created in innocence but with freedom of personal choice, Adam willfully and knowingly chose to disobey God’s explicit command and therefore “fell” or began a separation from God called “spiritual death.”  This condition is passed on by birth (Rom. 5:12-21).  Physical and spiritual deaths result (Rom. 6:23).

Sin:  Sin is basically selfishness or self managing the life of a person (Rom. 6:23).  From this, sins issue – individual acts of disobedience, indifference, or unbelief (Rom. 3:23; I Jn 1:9).

VI.  Soteriology   (Study of Salvation)

God’s Sovereignty in grace:  Not one man deserves God’s favor and love (Rom. 3:10; Eph. 2:8-9); therefore, all men deserve eternal separation form God (Rom. 6:23).  However, God elected to save certain people from that end (Rom. 9).  The paradox is that whosoever will come to Him, He will in no way cast out – human will – but no man can come unto the Father lest He draws him – election (Jn. 6:37, 44).

Justification:  As a sinner accepts Jesus by faith as his own personal Savior, he is at that moment justified or judicially declared to be righteous on the basis of Christ’s righteousness being imparted to him (Rom. 5:1-2; II Cor. 5:21).

Sanctification:  Justification is what God does for us and sanctification is what God does in us.  The believer is separated from his sin unto a holy life (I Cor. 1:2).  Positionally, he is set aside for holiness and practically he is being set aside for holiness in manner and conduct (Jn. 17:17; I Cor. 6:11).  This is a ministry of the Holy Spirit.

Glorification:  The final step of salvation is glorification.  This occurs at the moment the believer dies and immediately finds himself in the presence of the Lord.  He is given a glory like that of Christ’s (I Cor. 15; I Jn. 3:2).

Eternal Security:  Once God makes us His son we cannot be removed from the “family” because “by grace we are saved” and by grace we are kept.  Nothing can separate us now (Rom. 8:38-39; Jn. 10:28).

Steps in Salvation:  The sinner in convicted of his sin as sin (Jn. 16:8-11).  He is shown that Christ and the application of His work is his only solution (Jn. 14:6; II Cor. 5:21; Rom. 5:8).  As the sinner expresses faith in Christ and His work of redemption, then he is born anew (Jn. 3); as he expresses Him as Lord, he gets a new “land lord” (Rom. 10:9-10).
